We are staying at an RV park right in the city, which makes it really easy to enjoy the sights. Last night we went for dinner at Tomasita’s. The food was good, looks like it’s a local favorite. If you make it to Santa Fe, do yourself a favor and go to Counter Culture for breakfast or brunch. Great concept, order your food at the counter, and they deliver it to you. Cinnamon buns is all I have to say! They are huge and delicious, you can even get french toast made from them. We did, and it was amazing. They also have really good red and green chili for those of you who don’t go for sweets. Thanks to our friend Robbie for the hot tip.

We started off in Old Town Santa Fe looking for the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. On the way, we spotted an art gallery with art based on and by Dr. Seusse. The boys got a kick out of it; that’s one way to get kids into an art gallery. We walked through the town, which was beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. The architecture is just amazing and I love the narrow little streets. When we arrived at the museum we were told it was family day there, and at the New Mexico Museum of Art as well, free for us all, and kids activities. Score!! The boys started by making magnets out of pictures from art magazines. We then explored the museum and showed the boys her beautiful paintings and learned a bit about her life. Liam and Quinn then had a chance to draw a picture inspired by what they saw.

After we had left there, we walked toward the The New Mexico Museum of Art. On the way, we ran into a face painting and microscope station for the kids. There were flowers and leaves to look at through the microscope, pretty cool looking stuff. The boys got to paint there own faces too. We arrived at the next museum, there was a DJ playing old school R&B, which just reminded me of NYC. The boys got to make buttons at a button making station. The museum itself is just beautiful, as you can see. We stayed for about an hour to look at the art, but two museums in one day is a lot for any kid. We left and went to La Fonda, a hotel with a fantastic rooftop view of Santa Fe. We had a snack and, of course, a margarita for mom and dad; we’re pretty sure they forgot to put the tequila in, but the view and the hotel were beautiful.

Next we went to the Loretto Chapel. We were told about the miraculous staircase and it sounded like something we couldn’t miss. It’s not known how it was made. It has no center support and is constructed with an extinct species of wood, using only square wooden pegs, no glue or nails. The staircase was definitely a work of art, the whole church was a work of art. Then we went to the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi just to take a peek. There was a woman playing flamenco guitar, so we couldn’t walk around without disturbing the performance, so we left. We were done for the day, so it was time to get back to the RV park. We were all ready for a swim in the pool and the blood moon was happening tonight. We watched the blood moon eclipse, I think we were hoping for a little more red. It was still something to see. Our first day to explore was a lot of fun.
